Matthew 5:3 Blessed are the poor in spirit; for theirs is the kingdom of heaven
Enter:
The poor are not exactly blessed but we should do our best to help them
We should help the poor, but make it as difficult and humiliating as possible for them to get the help. We reduce help for the poor by pretending to reform welfare while giving away huge handouts to corporations .
The poor can easily get whatever they need as long as there is a free market and they work hard to better themselves. So the ones who are still needy must be lazy and good for nothing. They don't deserve free government handouts
If some natural disaster (like Katrina) or man-made calamity (like state of US Healthcare system) can get rid of the poor, so much the better for the rest of us.

Matthew 5:5 Blessed are the meek;
for they shall inherit the earth
Enter:
Americans don't believe in meekness. But we at least try to be reasonable and measured in our behavior
towards those who disagree with us.
We are aggressive and feisty. There is no need to be lenient with those who disagree with us.
We are aggressive in finding any soft spots in our opponents and then attack and beat them up with gusto
(like the impeachment of President Clinton)
We will make up stories about our opponents and if possible destroy them completely (the swiftboating of Kerry). Our guiding principle - 'Shock and Awe'.

We support Affirmative Action
We support Affirmative Action, but maybe not too much
We oppose Affirmative Action. All people are equal whether they come from a disadvantaged background or not.
We absolutely oppose Affirmative Action. Rich people are definitely more equal than others. God would not have made them rich, unless he preferred them.

Reduce harsh jail sentences for nonviolent offenders, oppose the death penalty
We want to look as tough on crime as the republicans. Three strikes and you are out.
Throw the criminals in jail as long as possible. Two strikes and you are out
Throw the criminals in jail as long as possible. Death penalty for the insane or underage people is fine. Make illegal immigration a criminal offence. Deport legal immigrants who may have committed some crimes many years ago. .

We don't call opponents by names and labels or use codewords to brand them.
We do some name calling (Elitist, racist, sexist)
We do lots of name calling and labelling - cowards, appeasers, unpatriotic (if they oppose war or don't wear little flags)
We spew our vitriol over our opponents without any compunction

Enter:
We don't turn the other cheek, but at least we don't strike first either
We support other people who want to strike first.
We will strike first as long as we think we can win.
We believe in preemptive strike even if we can never win (we are just plain stupid and incompetent). We have done it before and we will do it again.

Matthew 5:44 Love your enemies, bless them that curse you ... do good to them that hate you
Enter:
We don't love our enemy, but we will at least talk to them to seek some accommodation
We don't love our enemy, so we will maintain the status quo (the cold war) going for ever.
We don't love our enemy. We will fight the cold war with covert activity and proxies (like the Contras) and we are more than willing to start a hot war if necessary to destroy our enemy (usually making a mess of it)
Not only do we not love our enemy, we will attack them first and then make a mess of it because we have always failed at everything. Then we will make even more enemies - we are really good at that.

We want to include everyone in the American dream - universal healthcare, education, foodstamps, eliminate poverty.
We want to include everyone in the American dream - universal healthcare is ok, but not too much help for the poor.
We want to include everyone in the American dream (as long as they are not illegal immigrants - possibly the very least of us). To achieve all this, we will give tax cuts to those people who pay taxes (preferably to the rich). The poor who don't pay any taxes will just have to make do.
The American dream is for Halliburton, Defense contractors, KBR and other oil companies. We will eliminate poverty by eliminating poor people.

Matthew 19:14 Let the little children come to me ... the kingdom of heaven belongs to people like these
Enter:
Educating children and giving them health care is a very high priority. Teaching of scientific theories and sex education is important.
Educating children and giving them health care is a very high priority. Teaching of scientific theories and sex education is important.
Children are a high priority only if they are ours. Children of parents who can not afford healthcare do not deserve any. As for children of illegal immigrants, they might as well be dead. We like guns, bombs, super weapons, armies, wars - other than that only the life of unborn children is sacred. Education is good, but best to keep children ignorant about sex.
The sanctity of the life of the unborn is absolute, even if it is just a single cell after conception, but we won't spend a penny on nutrition or healthcare for poor pregnant women. After the children are born, they are on their own - we don't really care about them (unless they are ours). We can deny them healthcare if they are poor, deny them education if they are illegal, bomb them if they are foreign, imprison them if they look like terrorists, execute them if we think they are criminal. Education is best handled like indoctrination into our own beliefs in creationism, intelligent design, sexual abstinence (which does not work) - otherwise ignorance is best.

John 8:7 He that is without sin among you, let him first cast a stone
Enter:
They are weak like all men, but they would never condemn others for similar weaknesses. They would be the first to forgive this in others.
They are weak like all men, but they do not condemn others for their weakness either.
They have the same weakness like all men. Both Newt Gingrich and John McCain had affairs while they were still married and then dumped their first wives while they were sick or disabled. Many conservatives have a similar history, nevertheless they do not hesitate to condemn or persecute others who have acted the same way.
They are not only weak like other men, but their behavior is often sexually deviant (Larry Craig, Mark Foley, Jeff Gannon, Jim West, Matthew Galvin). However they are always the first to condemn, persecute and harass other people for even mild transgressions. Casting stones is actually something that gives them great satisfaction.
